Targeted grazing is the deliberate use of livestock to influence vegetation at a chosen place, time, intensity, and duration. The objective may be to reduce standing biomass, suppress selected plants, browse woody growth, open access, or prepare an area for another stage of management.

More than vegetation removal
Goats move through irregular ground, select among available plants, strip leaves, browse twigs, trample some dry material, and redistribute nutrients. Those behaviors can be useful when directed toward a clear objective. The aim is not to make every property look mowed; it is to use the herd’s browsing behavior where it provides practical value.

- Access for truck, trailer, fencing, water, and daily care
- Nearby roads, homes, pets, livestock, crops, and sensitive areas

What results should you expect?
Targeted grazing can reduce leaves, stems, seed heads, and standing biomass. It can weaken selected plants over time and make an area easier to enter or treat with other methods.
It does not guarantee eradication, eliminate wildfire risk, remove large woody stems, or create a permanently finished landscape in one visit. Good projects begin with realistic expectations and end with a plan for the next growing cycle.
